Leader has been proudly producing quick, easy and delicious meal solutions for over 20 years and has become the largest business of its kind in New Zealand. The scale of Leader’s operation requires vast freezer pallet racking that receives its fair share of knocks.

Scope

Leader required an upgrade of their heavy duty pallet racking in their freezer installation. The racking needed to be incredibly strong to withstand the rigours of its harsh environment. Their upgrade required supply, delivery and installation whilst working around their manufacturing team.

Challenge

That all sounds relatively straight forward until you factor in -24 degree temperatures and the installation dates between Christmas and New Year, then things get a bit more complicated.

Solution

The solution was to supply 7.2m high frames with heavy duty (100x95x2mm) post sections and 2743mm x 120mm box beams. These were installed with both individual steel post protectors and steel row protectors to prevent forklift collisions from damaging the frames. In addition to the steel protectors Leader selected plastic post protectors from our range that we installed to ensure a high visibility guide to the drive-throughs. If significantly impacted by material handling equipment these are easily and cost-effectively replaced.

To ensure business continuity, a large PRS Auckland installation team simultaneously removed and disposed of the existing damaged racking and installed the new product. The extreme temperature required the team to utilise multiple PRS scissor lifts to allow for the impact the cold has on their battery life.

The completion deadline of 8th January was met by working through public holidays to ensure the racking was installed on-time so the Leader Production team could again operate at full capacity.
