Established in 2001, Kiwi owned and operated Supply Chain Solutions are a leading 3PL provider in NZ. With around 350 full time equivalent team members they have a great reputation and one of the highest client retention records in the industry.

Scope

The client had a large pallet racking requirement (17,000+ pallet positions) to be installed in a short time frame. With selective pallet racking frame heights up to 14m high and cantilever racking up to 11m high, product supply, delivery and installation had to meet the client’s requirements in great detail.

Challenge

The needs of their customers can vary quite dramatically, resulting in a warehouse and pallet racking that needs to be dynamic and responsive to change. And of course, the project was on a tight schedule.

Solution

PRS worked closely with Supply Chain Solutions staff to coordinate the installation. In the design process, the ever-changing demands of their customers’ needs were taken into account and these features were incorporated into the installation process.

From full pallet and large picks to high-density small item picks, this warehouse had everything. A combination of very narrow aisles (with wire-guided material handling equipment) and wider aisles for larger palletised products was utilised in the racking design.

The arrival of the product to site was carefully coordinated in a well-planned sequence. Product was sourced ex-factory as well as from local stocks to ensure the most efficient outcome was achieved.

A fast turnaround isn’t unusual for a 3PL business – they need to keep downtime to a minimum – but the difference with this project was the size of the pallet racking installation.

Add to that the different types of pallet racking – size, shapes and purpose – and this job was more challenging that most.

The job was completed on time without any issues, and Supply Chain Solutions joined the long list of other happy PRS clients.
