Any business that needs a warehouse requires safe, efficient and cost-effective solutions to get their products to their clients as quickly as possible.
But in the FMCG industry, time speed and accuracy are especially important.
The Fast Moving Consumer Goods Industry
In the FMCG industry, your products often sell quickly at a relatively low price and have a short shelf-life because of high customer demand or due to the perishable nature of your products. These products usually have low-profit margins but high volume.
So, it is critical that you have a storage and logistics system that is up to the task. You need to minimise waste and have an effective and efficient system that gets your products quickly to your customers.
This is where we can help.
How we can help manage your FMCG solutions
Because fast-moving consumer goods have such a high turnover rate, the market is not only very large, but also very competitive.
The smallest blip in the warehouse routine can have dire consequences down the line, giving your competitors the advantage.
With orders coming, going, and returning at such a rapid pace, every stage of the supply chain needs to run like a well-oiled machine.
It takes an efficient, precise, and lightning-quick system to handle high numbers of goods in a short timeframe.
And just as importantly, the system needs to be able to deal with any unexpected issues which arise.
The PRS team can help make your FMCG business run like clockwork, bringing efficiency, flexibility, and cost-effective practices to your day-to-day logistics.
Everything we do is designed to help you run a smoother, tighter ship, getting your product out there in the quickest and safest way possible.
Case Study: Leader
Leader has been proudly producing quick, easy and delicious meal solutions for over 2 decades, becoming the largest business of its kind in New Zealand.
When the company required an upgrade of their heavy-duty pallet racking in their freezer installation, they called us.
The scale of Leader’s operation requires vast freezer pallet racking that receives its fair share of knocks and can withstand the rigours of its harsh environment.
To add to the complexity of the job, installation had to be completed between Christmas and New Year, in minus 24 degree temperatures!
To ensure business continuity, a large PRS installation team simultaneously removed and disposed of the existing damaged racking and while installing the new product.
Individual steel post protectors and steel row protectors were installed to prevent forklift collisions from damaging the new 7.2 metre frames.
The tight deadline was met by working through public holidays – just another example of our dedication to our clients.
Case Study: Auckland Meat Processors
Auckland Meat Processors handle a high volume of pallets that require frozen storage in a confined space.
FMCG with a high turnover and long shelf-life require a “first in, last out” storage model, and Auckland Meat Processors needed a solution that was going to stand the test of time in its harsh environment.
Due to the confined spaces and narrow aisles, drive in racking has a higher chance of impact than most, so selecting the right product for the job was key.
We designed, supplied and installed a new heavy-duty drive in racking solution to replace their existing racking, maximising the use of space while providing protection for product and packaging.
With drive-in racking, pallets are placed by the forklift on horizontal rails, thus storing them more deeply than traditional selective racking and creating more space in the warehouse. Forklifts “drive in” to load or retrieve the pallets within the racking.
Case Study: Bluebird
Bluebird is one of the biggest snack food manufacturers in the country producing New Zealand’s favourite potato chips in their Wiri factory in Auckland.
It was this popularity that created the problem. They needed an additional 30% storage space for product, but within the same area.
We worked closely with Bluebird to reconfigure their warehouse to maximise every inch of space, and as a food manufacturer, freshness is crucial, so they needed a solution that would ensure the correct products were dispatched.
To achieve the extra space, we added an extra level to the new, taller frames, while reconfiguring the depth of the racking from 3 to 4 pallets.
Of course, safety is always paramount, and wire mesh shelves were installed on the higher levels along with anti-collapse safety mesh to create a strong barrier between stock and workers.
The end result has achieved the crucial addition of 30% more product storage to a warehouse that is now site safe and fit for purpose.
