PALLET RACKING
BUILDING CONSENT
AND COMPLIANCE

DOWNLOAD BROCHURE:

CONSENTING AND COMPLIANCE brochure image

Pallet racking installations in New Zealand now requires a pallet racking building consent. We can complete your building consent, including the documentation needed to ensure the installation will comply with the New Zealand Building Code.

Our comprehensive consenting process walks you through four stages:

  • Structural Calculations by our registered racking design engineer (PS1)
  • This evaluation is peer-reviewed (PS2)
  • As the installer, we sign off on the installations (PS3)
  • Final inspection by the Structural Engineer (PS4)

Fire reports and emergency lighting reports will also be coordinated by us for submission to your local Council authority as part of the consenting process.

THINGS TO
CONSIDER

  • What’s the right type of racking for your needs? Consider your soil class, concrete floor specifications, seismic zone, the structural integrity of your chosen racking, and loading weights on beams/frames.
  • Don’t forget to check out the above before you sign a lease or purchase a property: as the state of the building will have significant implications for your racking.
  • Safety comes first, but design and planning are also key to maximising usable storage space and efficiency in warehouses with challenging dimensions.
  • Greater profile components are required if your warehouse is in a challenging seismic zone. This may extend to seismic bracing.
  • Fire safety Reports and Emergency Lighting Reports also need to be completed as part of your warehouse building consent application.
  • Your fire and emergency lighting reports need to be specific to the racking and your stock. e.g. paper or other flammable products may require an in-rack sprinkler system.
  • Look for a pallet racking specialist that offers consenting as part of an overall service.
  • Most importantly, get some expert advice: it will save you time and money in the long run, and keep you on the right side of the law (and your insurer).

THE
BOTTOM
LINE

To avoid expensive mistakes, it pays to talk to a pallet racking specialist who can walk you through the building consent application, and help you with your documentation, so you can be sure your installation will be Building Code compliant.

Pallet Racking Solutions’ comprehensive consenting process walks you through the stages, providing an evaluation by our racking design engineer, a sign-off of installations, and fire & emergency lighting reports will be coordinated by us for submission to your local Council authority.

Pallet Racking Building Consent

Pallet Racking Solutions manages the full building consent and compliance process for pallet racking installations in NZ, including structural engineering (PS1), peer review (PS2), installer sign-off (PS3) and final engineering inspection (PS4). Fire & emergency lighting reports are coordinated, and advice is given on soil class, seismic zones, and compliance with the NZ Building Code.

What is required for pallet racking building consent in NZ?
You need structural calculations by a registered design engineer (PS1), peer review (PS2), installation sign-off (PS3), and final engineer inspection (PS4).
Does the process include fire and emergency lighting reports?
Yes — PRS coordinates fire reports and emergency lighting reports as part of the consent paperwork submitted to local council.
What site-specific factors are considered in consent & compliance?
Soil class, concrete floor specs, seismic zone, racking structural integrity, load weights, plus warehouse building condition are taken into account.
Is expert advice from a pallet racking specialist necessary?
Yes — working with a specialist who handles consent, design and engineering saves time, money, and ensures legal compliance.
What happens if my warehouse is in a seismic zone or holds flammable stock?
In such cases, more robust profile components, seismic bracing, and potentially in-rack sprinkler systems must be included in the consent documentation.
